This gallery contains images of Lunenburg, LaHave, LaHave Islands and Crescent Beach. Founded in 1753, Lunenburg is a port town located in the South Shore region of Nova Scotia about an eighty minute drive from Halifax. In 1995 UNESCO designated Old Town Lunenburg a World Heritage Site, due to it retaining its original layout and appearance of the 1800’s and is considered the best example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America.  Seventy percent of the original colonial buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries continue to welcome visitors with their beautiful architecture and outstanding colour. The historic core of the town is also a National Historic Site of Canada. The Bluenose was a famous fishing vessel and a celebrated racing gaff rig schooner and was built in Lunenburg and launched in 1921 and unfortunately was wrecked in 1946. A replica, Bluenose II was built in Lunenburg in 1963 and when not busy touring spends much of the year docked in Lunenburg. Canada’s largest secondary fish-processing plant (High Liner Foods) is located in Lunenburg southeast of the old town area.  The Lahave Islands are a small group of islands about a 15 minute drive south of LaHave. Some islands are linked by road from the mainland. The area is know as a good kayaking location and there are "Glamping" facilities available.
